Senator Hiram L. Fong

First Asian American elected to the U.S. Senate

Becoming American Video

Public Television ran a three part series on Chinese immigration to America in 2003. As a prelude to airing the Bill Moyers special, KHET, PBS Hawaii, produced a half hour program featuring Sen. Fong and his personal family’s experiences of coming to Hawaii from Guangdung, China. The interview was conducted by Pamela Young and produced by Scott Culbertson. It took place shortly after Sen. Fong had been released from the hospital and was the last taped interview the Senator gave.
